She was a sample/pattern maker for Isaac Mizrahi, who inspired her to create and design. It was while working for Helen Morley that she developed her passion for creating bridal gowns. In 1998, she joined Couture Bridal Collection as their head pattern maker, and in 2001 took over the position of designer.

It was time to break out on her own and use her broad range of talents, skills, experience and knowledge. In 2003, she formed a company that purchased Couture Bridal Collection and renamed it Couture Bridal by Elma Reis.
